The bill (SB 1852) passed the House unanimously and now goes to the desk of Gov. Rick Scott for his signature.

The measure earmarks $60 million for the State Apartment Incentive Loan Program to subsidize rents or fund the construction of new units, with $25 million of that reserved for the elderly and $40 million for the State Housing Initiative Program, or SHIP, which goes to local governments for affordable housing assistance.

Twenty million will also go to Habitat for Humanity for the purchase and renovation of houses to go to low-income families; $10 million into an initiative to provide housing for the homeless; $10 million for grants for housing for the developmentally disabled; and $9.1 million for dormitory housing for students in the Florida Prepaid Tuition program.
